“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” W.B. Yeats
As a dance educator I consider myself a student as well as a teacher. My teaching strategies are always changing and adapting to new ideas. For my students, I am a facilitator who guides the use of information so they can learn through inquiry, discovery, and exploration. I strive to instill the values of individuality and community in the students I teach. Dance serves as an outlet to express oneself artistically as an individual or as an individual within a group. Students can put aside issues of body image and peer acceptance to feel comfortable to grow as a dancer, individual, and community member. I make an impact on each of my students by creating an environment that encourages growth as an individual, but still upholds the importance of working with a group collaboratively.
